WHY VOTE YES
FIVE REASONS TO VOTE YES
South Sioux City Community Schools is asking voters to approve a bond issue that will improve school safety and security, fix crumbling infrastructure, make schools accessible for all students, eliminate overcrowding and replace aging and outdated buildings. There are many reasons to vote on this proposal, which will provide our kids with the kind of education they deserve.
#1 — Every child in our community deserves a safe school where they can learn and thrive.
School safety needs are very different than they were even when our newest schools were designed over 30 years ago. Additionally, more than half of our schools are at capacity. Kids can’t learn in classrooms that are both outdated and overcrowded. We need to act now.
#2 — Our aging schools have very real needs.
We spend a lot on schools that are too small, too crowded, and too expensive to renovate. It simply doesn’t make sense to continue spending money on these buildings. It doesn’t benefit taxpayers, and it certainly doesn’t benefit our kids.
#3 — Our kids need and deserve the same opportunities and resources as kids in other communities.
Providing up-to-date classrooms will better prepare our kids for high-skill, high-wage, high-demand jobs or success in higher education. For our kids to have these opportunities, we must improve our schools.
#4 — Our community gets stronger.
If we hope our kids will grow up to do right by their children, we need to set a good example right now. When we pass this proposal, we’ll create a stronger and more unified community for many generations to come.
#5 — It protects what’s important.
The connection between stable property values and great schools is well-documented. Not only will our kids benefit from a better education, but our families will also benefit from stronger property values. For many, our home is our most important investment. The simple reality is that quality schools are essential for a quality community.
For a home with a market value of $200,000, the cost of this bond issue is $1.31 a day. That’s not much to pay to give our children the same opportunities and resources as kids in other communities.
